The Lion King-Do Not Miss!

Well, last night was opening night for the show that is running six weeks at the Masonic.  When it comes to plays, my expectations are usually farily low.  I guess I was scared by my last play at the Stranahan Theater,  Blue Clues Live! which was well, even for kid fare was awful.

I cannot give The Lion King higher marks.  Go see it!  It is so well done, so engaging, so immersive, and done on such a grand scale.  We left there talking about seeing it again.  Whether you have kids, no kids, young, old, it does not matter.  It will blow you away.

  1. I remember THE LION KING- I was at a friend’s house watching it with a bunch of kids, and I kept commenting on how unrealistic it was that a lion could somehow find the stregth to overwhelm his aggressor while hanging on to a cliff ledge by his claws. The kids all just looked at me like I was crazy, so I left the room. I hated this movie. I also hated it because the Oscars gave Hans Zimmer Best Score for The Lion King over Thomas Newman’s The Shawshank Redemption, which BY FAR was the more original and influential score since the handing out of that reward- Zimmer sucks, the Academy sucks, and the movie is unrealistic. Long live Thomas Newman, a real talent!

  2. I remember THE LION KING- back in the day I was watching it with a friend and a bunch of kids, and I remember complaining about how unrealistic is was for a lion, hanging on by his claws on a cliff ledge, to somehow summon enough strength to propel himself upwards and overwhelm his aggressor. The kids all just looked at me like I was crazy, so I left the room.
I hate this movie because it’s Walt Disney (number one) AND because the Oscars decided to give Hans Zimmer (a less-than-imaginative composer) an Oscar for his film score. He beat out Thomas Newman for THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, which BY FAR was the more creative score…as an added bonus, Newman’s score has influenced so much since then, including Danny Elfman (BIG FISH).
I think I will miss it…as well as George Lucas’ CLONE WARS movies, which are probably even worse than THE LION KING. Good to start my postings off with positive comments, eh??? Lol…

  3. No doubt about it. Saw it at Stranahan this weekend and it was hands down one of the best productions I’ve ever seen live on stage. The costumes alone are worth the price of admission. Not only does the intimate setting of Stranahan put you right at the base of Pride Rock, your in the show all the way. Loved, it, and would see it again in a heart beat. The actors that stand out the most are the folks who played Rafiki, Zazu and Scar. The girl who was Rafiki gave me goose bumps when she belted out the native African tribal songs.
